Local short subject bows today at Del Mar theater
FILM: "The $5 Movie," a San Diego based American Dream Cinema,
15-minute film, will have its commercial debut today, opening with the
big musical "Moulin Rouge" at the Ultra Star Flower Hill multiplex in
Del Mar.
"It's our first short after making
mostly commercials," says executive producer Wally Schlotter, formerly
head of the San Diego Film Commission, "and it's about a Spielbergian
kid who breaks into film, then goes on to re-shoot the same scene at different
stages of his career."
The film stars San Diego student
J. Taylor Heinemann and, as his father, local TV weatherman Loren Nancarrow,
and Sue Wakefield as the mom. "The $5 Movie" was directed by Devin Scott,
and produced by Emmy Award winning producer Jeanne Scott.
The movie, which they hope will seed
interest in a future feature-length production, won a bronze medal at
the Houston World Film Festival and was named "best story" at the Newport
Beach Film Festival.
